A letter to my mom on my birthday

April 23rd, 1988

Where do I begin? Where to I start to thank you for everything. Becoming a mom has taught me that you give up everything for your child. I knew it before becoming a mom but now I really know what it’s like, what you went through from start to finish. How you cared for us for so long and are still caring for us. I know Im no where near the years of mommy-hood that you have under your belt but these past 4 months have given me a small glimpse of the sacrifices that you made for Omar & I.

You are our rock, our sounding board, our best friend, the one that we can always turn to and know that you will always have the answer. No matter what you have always been there for us. Your talks are always comforting & full of wisdom. You have taught me how to be a mom and how to care for my family just the way you have cared for us. You are such a strong and amazing woman that I cannot compare to you, even by an ounce.

Every year you write me a letter for my birthday & it’s the one gift that I truly treasure the most. Yes all of the material things are great but there’s nothing like getting that letter from you. It always reflects on everything that happened throughout the year and how things have changed. Well this year Im writing you a letter & telling you how grateful I am that you are my mom. You always shower us with so much love and devotion. You take in so much, carry so much weight on your shoulders. I know we don’t make it easy for you at times but I hope one day to carry the weight you carry to ease it for you. Mama, you are the most amazing woman I know. You taught me how to multitask and just take a deep breathe when the going gets tough. You taught that no matter what there’s always an answer to every problem and even if there isn’t you find a way to make it work.

You’ve shown me to take things one step at a time but to also look at the future. You’ve taught me to be patient and understanding of others & to take a step back when I need to. You’ve given me so much and I hope to give you back even more. You are such an amazing and loving grandmother (sitylita) to our sweet Queso. He loves you more than he loves me most days. You gave us the world & I hope to give you the universe. I love you mama more than all of the stars in the skies, all of the water drops in the ocean, you are everything to me. Thank you for giving me life and being the mom that I can only hope to be one day.
