Astros Opening Day

I have to admit that I am not much of an Astros fan- I know, I know. BUT that doesn’t mean that I didnt have a great time at opening day with my little family! It was Qais’s first professional sports team game and it was our first time experiencing opening day. So much fun! Wish we would have gotten there sooner so we could have walk around more but nevertheless, we had a blast!

If you’ve never been to an Astros game, they are pretty fun and trust me there’s not a bad seat in the house. The food is delicious-there’s a Shack Shack- enough said. Qais was obsessed with the french fries, its safe to say that he ate more than Moe & I put together. That kid can down some fries.

Im pretty sure we’ll be going back when our wiggle worm actually can sit for more than a few minutes but he had a blast. The stadium is beautiful, the people are so friendly and its something that Im so happy we all got to experience together as a family.

Jerusalem & Surda

For a little #throwbackthursday I am FINALLY getting a chance to sit down and share these images from our trip back in November (don’t judge me) with you all! This trip was such an amazing trip, I was able to go to places that Ive never been to before and experience Palestine in a way that I’ve never been able to before.

This country is so beautiful and there’s so much to do, our trip was definitely too short but I know we’ll be going back soon hopefully! We had such a wonderful time visiting family, touring the old city, drives through the village, shopping & so much more.

Here are some peeks at what we did while we were there.

This view is one of my favorites in the entire country.

Touring the old city at around 6 o’clock in the evening.

Some of the best street falafel I’ve ever had

Friday afternoon at the Dome of the Rock Masjid after Friday prayer.

I don’t know why we didn’t go in this time while we were there but I just wanted to soak up every minute while I was there so I don’t have many photos of our afternoons here.

Wailing wall

Hidden pathways are all over the old city.

This church in the old city is one of the most beautiful churches Ive ever seen. I could spend hours inside this majestic place soaking up every inch of it. I was an art history major in school and Byzantine art was my absolute favorite to study & well let’s just say I was in heaven walking into this church.

Friday afternoon shopping in the old city market

Our favorite spot to eat while we were out and about.

More shopping in Ramallah

Walking the streets of the village

Someone loved to play in the olive trees.

Going through these photos again makes me miss the motherland and I can’t wait to go again and have our little boy grow up in here, experience his heritage. Until next time!

Our little family

A couple of weeks ago, we got our family photos done with Cassie of Cassie C Photography. Let’s just say I am blown away with these images, she couldn’t have captured us better. It’s always hard trusting someone else with my family photos as a photographer myself, Im a bit picky and when I saw her work I knew I had to have her take our photos. Im so glad that we got to do this because who knew the weeks after taking our pictures would be a whirlwind. Those are stories for another time.

For now, enjoy!

Qais's 1st Birthday

First off I still can’t believe our little one turned 1 in December and I can’t believe its been almost a whole month and we now have a 13th month old! Can we please ask Father Time to slow time down just a bit?? We are growing at rapid speeds here and Im not ready for it! We have a babbler, runner, hyperactive, biggest personality son! I couldn’t be more grateful or thankful that our little boy is just full of love and light.

In December we celebrated his first birthday with our family and friends and I refused to not have someone document our big day. Even though Im a photographer and yes I could have done it myself, I didn’t want to. I wanted to enjoy every bit of it with everyone. Sometimes it’s nice to step away from the camera and let someone else handle it for a change.

First off,I need to give a HUGE thank you to my dear friend Rachel Stubbe for documenting Qais’s big day. It was such a relief to have someone as talented as you there with us.

Secondly, we are all about monsters. Yep, MONSTERS. Let’s just say I wanted to do the traditional Circus, Wild One, Gentleman’s birthday theme BUT it goes without saying that our little guy is a monster. From the nosies he walks around making to destroying pretty much everything in his path that it was most fitting for him to have a monster bash! This was probably the easiest party to put together. (DIY’s coming soon!)

Thirdly, enjoy our day with us!

NYC Part 1

What can I say, I leave a piece of my heart in New York every time I leave & this last time was no different. I loved exploring new parts of the city and adding new favorite places to my list. I loved the fact that even though this trip was a business trip, I got to enjoy it with my mama & my little one. We skipped all of the touristy items that we have already done but didn’t knock the ones that we haven’t. This will be a 2 part blog, as we did a lot in the city in a short amount of time.

Okay let’s start off with the first couple of days. One, there’s so much to do & to see in the city that I think if you lived there you wouldn’t be able to see it all in a lifetime. I still have places that need to be crossed off but hopefully that’ll happen with my two trips coming up in 2017! (I’m trying to figure out how to move us there, anyone hiring??, kidding-maybe..)

The first couple of days were perfect! Weather, no crowds, well behaved baby & all!

Day 1: Oculus & World Trade Center. Both so beautiful. You could spend an entire day here just looking at everything and looking at all of the various pieces of history that are now there.

Day 2: Take a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge, walk down to DUMBO & take a picture in from of probably one of the most Instagramed spots in New York. Eat in Brooklyn-Yes eat in Brooklyn! Lizzmonade, Ignaziones, Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. Best view of Lady Liberty on a Water Taxi, probably one of the best touristy things we have ever done. Jane’s Carousel and any green area for kids to play. I was obsessed with all of the parks there and so was Qais.

To be continued…

Qais turns 1

First of all, I can’t believe this time last year I was headed to the doctors office to do one of my last checkups before our little man made it into this world. Some days Im still in shock that I have another human to look after and tend to. The year has flown by and I can’t believe how big our little man has gotten. A lot happens in a year, us as adults tend to grow a lot and learn a lot about ourselves but our children, those moments pass quicker than we realize and poof there went another year.

Babies are tough. There’s no doubt about that. They know how to push buttons on a bad day, know how to tug on your heart strings but they also know how to keep you warm & fuzzy as well as smoother you with all the love in the world. We have definitely had our ups and downs- pretty much every day between 4-7 months was a battle. I honestly couldn’t tell you why but I remember those being my least favorite months, too many changes and not enough consistency. All of the other months, spectacular! Loved every minute of it. But I wouldn’t change a single day that went by as we watched our little one grow.

This year has been nothing short of amazing and truly the best year of our lives. We have an overachiever and the busiest little boy there is. He is into every little thing and I anticipate him working with his hands because this kid loves to take apart and rebuild everything that he finds. He has the kindest heart and the biggest personality and if you’ve ever met him personally he will just want to make you laugh with his silliness. I pray he remains this way his entire life and only grows to love the people that cross his path even more. I say he got the best of Moe & I and I pray that it stays that way.

Happy birthday bug! Mama & Baba love to you to pieces! We can’t believe how big of a boy you are and how much more we have to share with you. We want this day to be the best day ever!

Pumpkin Patch

This is my favorite time of year, the colors, the weather, the pumpkins! I seriously count down the days until the fall comes-if I could live in a place that was fall all year around I would. Any one know of a place that exists??

Here are some photos from a few days ago at the pumpkin patch.

9 months

Everyone tells you what to expect while you’re pregnant, during birth and the first couple of months your new life as a mom but that’s it. No one tells you what to expect at doctors appointments, when your child throws up without reason, why your kid doesn’t want to sleep in his own bed and so on. Well Im here to share our experience with you on what happens at 9 month doctors appointments.

We all freak out the first time our kid get a shot and do everything the doctor tells us. Our kids get poked every few months the first couple of years of their life, which Im not complaining but sometimes it hurts us more than it hurts them.

Today, we went to our 9 month doctors appointment- everyone kept saying oh no another round of shots. I ensured everyone that no we were just getting blood work and they were just going to stick his foot. (This is completely normal at this stage, they are just doing routine checks.) Boy was I wrong. I thought it would be the same as the first couple of times kids get stuck with needles. We had our normal doctors appointment and then they sent us upstairs where they do all of the blood work for all of the patients. Personally, anytime I get my blood drawn I pass out and they have to lay me down. Im one of those people.

We walk into the area where they send all of the patients. Qais, being the wiggle worm that he is, was done and ready to play. We tried to keep him entertained and comfortable until we were done. I started to get nervous and my husband being one-handed at the moment (story for another time, someone needs to learn how to use power tools), wasn’t able to help hold him. We sat down in THE CHAIR and waited for them to get situated. They decided to take their sweet time have unnecessary conversations. I started to tell Moe that they needed to hurry up because I was freaking out.

I told them that my kid was strong and he was going to fight, they said no it’s okay we got this just hold him. I put the arm rest in front of us, I was sitting in the chair holding Qais in my arms. Moe came and stood on my right side and TWO nurses came over to take the blood. They quickly found out how strong he was. He pulled his arm away so fast when they wrapped the band around his arm to find the vein. Once they found his vein, arm straight and needle in. I held onto my baby as tight as I could as he screamed and cried. Tears rolled down both of our faces and Moe just held both of us. Thankfully they filled up the bottles quickly and bandaged him up. Gave him a bottle and he fell asleep in the car on the way home.

It was the worst 5 minutes of my life. Knowing the pain that he felt when that needle went in and knowing that there was nothing you could do until it was over. You can opt to wait to do this until your little is 12 months which I almost did once we were in the chair, but I just said no let’s just get it out of the way. Thankfully, we have one tough kid and he is up and playing all over the house like nothing.

9 month pictures of our little one coming soon!

Best of luck to all the mamas that have this appointment coming up.

xoxo
